Bring your lawn chairs and yard games, and spend an evening celebrating the start of summer at Montie Beach Park to help shape the future of this park! A master plan is being developed for this park, and we need YOU to be involved.

This family-friendly event is bilingual, with English and Spanish-speaking team members and interpretation support on site.

In close coordination with the Houston Parks and Recreation Department, Houston Parks Board is leading the development of a Master Plan for Montie Beach Park with design consultant Asakura Robinson, guided by the City of Houston, with input from stakeholders, public agencies, and community organizations. Special thanks to Montie Beach Civic Club for fundraising for the master plan.

Fair for Houston Petition Canvass.

Saturday, April 29, 2023, 1:00 - 3:00 pm:  Fair for Houston Petition Canvass.  Montie Beach Civic Club will be partnering with the Greater Heights Democratic Club to canvass our neighborhood to collect signatures for the nonpartisan petition to add a charter amendment from Fair for Houston to be included on the November 2023 ballot.  If you can canvass with us, please RSVP at this link:  https://mobilize.us/s/jblkdS Then, we will send you the meeting location.

Note:  The petition is requesting to reform the voting structure of the Houston-Galveston Area Council(H-GAC) to be proportional to the population of the 13 member counties.  The  H-GAC determines the funding and planning for Transportation Infrastructure, Flooding Prevention and Mitigation, Childcare, and Workforce Development.  Currently, while Houston and Harris County comprise 62.6% of the population of the region, Houston and Harris County have only 17.9% of the votes.  An example of how this adversely affects us in Brooke Smith/Montie Beach is the recent vote about the I-45 improvements.  All Houston and Harris County representatives to the H-GAC voted against the TxDOT proposal, supporting instead plans that MBCC along with COH and County planning departments, agencies, not for profits, and civic clubs, had worked to improve, while the majority of representatives, who do not live near or drive daily on I-45, voted to approve the TxDOT proposal.
